Report: Fall Leisure Travel Forecast

November 10, 2020

Where is leisure travel headed in the months to come?

Our Fall 2020 Leisure Travel Forecast is the first in a series of ongoing studies designed to take a predictive look at how marketers can expect people to travel in the near future. We surveyed over 150 likely U.S. leisure travelers to gain insights into how, when, where, and with whom they intend to travel.

Among the key takeaways:

  • COVID-19 continues to both suppress and drive pent-up demand for leisure travel, leaving many travelers seeking new and different ways of getting away.
  • Over-the-road travel to "off the beaten path" destinations will lead the charge as the preferred way for families to take vacations.
  • The market for short-to-medium-length trips continues to strengthen, which is a good sign for certain destinations and experience providers.
  • Vacation rentals will compete head to head with hotels and motels for vacationers eager to stay socially distant while away from home.
