Our Fall 2020 Leisure Travel Forecast is the first in a series of ongoing studies designed to take a predictive look at how marketers can expect people to travel in the near future. Among the key takeaways:

  • COVID-19 continues to both suppress and drive pent-up demand for leisure travel, leaving many travelers seeking new and different ways of getting away.
  • Over-the-road travel to "off the beaten path" destinations will lead the charge as the preferred way for families to take vacations.
  • The market for short-to-medium-length trips continues to strengthen, which is a good sign for certain destinations and experience providers.
  • Vacation rentals will compete head to head with hotels and motels for vacationers eager to stay socially distant while away from home.
