Our latest quarterly travel forecast has some encouraging signs for destinations and travel brands. We surveyed 210 American leisure travelers to understand their likely behavior in the months ahead. Topics included what types of destinations they're planning to visit, how they're planning to get there, and what factors are playing the biggest roles in the decision making process.

While COVID anxiety still exists as a primary barrier to travel, demand across all consumer segments is on the rise. Relaxed COVID restrictions and widespread vaccinations are combining with the warmer weather to create an atmosphere where more people appear willing to get out and travel again.

The Spring 2021 Leisure Travel Forecast. Some of our key findings include:

  • Overall travel intention is skyrocketing compared to just three months ago, with over 60% of respondents now planning trips.
  • COVID anxiety among likely travelers is down a full 15%.
  • Preference for hotels versus other forms of lodging is up for the second straight quarter.
  • Travelers appear willing to spend more money than usual per trip than at any time since the pandemic began.
